Dr Tan Ching Yam (陈清业博士), a life member of NPCC Alumni, is a talented and multi-skilled artist who has won many awards for his Calligraphy and Chinese finger paintings. A regular participant in Singapore and overseas exhibitions, Dr Tan has received many commendations and was awarded Gold medals in 1995 and 1996 by “Henan Research Institute of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy”.
Being an Honorary Academician,he is an active Writer cum Art Educator, especially for his excellence in Finger Painting. He learned finger painting from the famous finger painter, Mr. Wu Tsai Yen. For the past 25 years, Dr Tan has participated in many Group Art Exhibition in Seoul (Korea), Japan, Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Luoyang, Anhui, Anyang, Hangzhou, etc.
In the last 15 years, Dr Tan has put up 4 Solo Art Exhibitions on Finger Painting, each with one theme:
1. New Zealand scene – Maori Culture
2. Historical Buildings in Singapore;
3. Portraits on Great People in Singapore;
4. Love for Animals.
Dr Tan was invited by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) to demonstrate Finger Painting in New Zealand for three times (1992,1993 & 1997) and had won International Award for Excellence in Finger Painting from several countries:
Dr Tan was appointed a Research Fellow of ABI in 2006.

As part of Alexandra Hospital’s Art Therapy programme, elderly patients gather for Chinese painting classes taught by volunteer Dr Tan Ching Yam, and aided by a group of student volunteers from the Singapore Chinese Girls’ School (SCGS).

陈清业博士,笔名陈文、耿介,原籍福建。是新加坡一位非常活跃的著名书画家(尤其指画更是一绝)兼作家。其著作《绿野童心》获颁新加坡1987年最优秀青少年读物奖。
陈博士向来积极参与海内外的文化艺术活动。曾经多次受邀参加韩国的”亚细亚美术招待展“,1987年参加在日本金泽大学举行的“亚太国际艺术交流大会与展览”。十多年来,他曾经参加在中国举行的书画联展,包括北京,上海,洛阳,苏州和杭州等地的大型展览。 2006年上半年,他就参加了深圳第二届文博会与参观大芬油画村建设,作品参加在新加坡举行的”亚太区艺术交流大会(2006年5月间),作品参加由东南亚美术协会主办的“真放与精微”书画展(2006年6月间〕等等。
教育背景:
1961年毕业于中正中学(总校〕/1966年毕业于南洋大学(文学士〕 /1968年获得新加坡教育学院教育文凭/1992-1993年获得南洋艺术学院中国画高级文凭/ 1979年获得英国教育学院教育文凭/2000年获得澳洲科丁大学艺术证书。

陈清业博士以指画享誉新加坡及亚洲画坛。指画,即在掌握中国画要领的基础上,用手指代替毛笔沾墨进行绘画。陈清业,祖籍中国福建省安溪县,1942年出生于新加坡。还是在幼儿时陈清业就喜欢上了图画,随着年龄的增长,这种对绘画艺术的兴趣并没有随时间的推移而湮没,反而在近年来他对指画创作兴趣更加浓厚。
1966年毕业于新加坡南洋大学的陈清业,长期从事教育工作,喜好绘画和文学。在当年的师资训练学院进修美术,也在国大校外进修系研修中国画,更到“南洋”来专修中国画两年之久。在学练中国水墨画之后,他师从著名指画家吴在炎学习指画。在习指画中,陈清业全神贯注地去钻研、磨练,务祈精益求精,达到理想境界,不达目的誓不罢休。其指画构思缜密、色彩清新而不脱俗,指法苍劲而层次分明充满了灵气,布局错落有秩,艺术日臻完善。2003年陈清业获得印度颁发的“国际指画艺术成就奖”。他创作的指画有城市速写“基督城”,“奥克兰大桥”;也有旅游风光“江山如画”、“罗特尔温泉区”;民俗“迷人之图腾”、“毛里族服饰”、“毛里族文化村”、“新西兰之艺”;还有纯生态自然速写“叠彩岩”、“绿波荡漾”、“珠光圆润”,表露出南洋风格。其“画风细腻,灵秀,清纯-----虽然信手拈来,却有精湛功夫,一画作成,啧啧称赞之声不断---” 陈清业嗜于画,习于画,“日日新,又日新,“指”之所向,骋意挥洒,画与学两者得兼。
大学毕业后陈清业主要在新加坡德兰中学教学地理科目,他写了“中学会考地理”等许多地理参考书及教科书。他善于将艺术融会贯通为一体,创造艺术性“工作”,同时,也使本职工作充满了艺术氛围。他的文学专著《祖母的话》,还加上许多他自绘的儿时乡村风光的速写插图。他的专著《绿野童心》1986年获新加坡“最优秀儿童书籍奖”,夏威夷大学的文学教授罗锦堂说此书可与丰子恺的著作及漫画媲美。
从1994年起陈清业还代表新加坡艺术团体来到中国,先后参加安徽合肥画展、河南安阳书画院新中画家联展、北京故宫博物馆画展、苏州国立美术馆画展、洛阳美术馆画展、上海刘海粟美术馆画展、杭州西冷印社画展,并于1987年参加了在日本召开的南太平洋国际艺术交流大会及展览。陈清业的作品还被中国、韩国、新加坡、日本等图书馆、大学及收藏家收藏;其中陈清业2003年创作的“抗沙英雄,无私奉献”指画作品一幅,以5000元新加坡币卖出,所得款全部捐献给了“赵光灏医生纪念基金”。
